What does "Payment Not Authorized" mean on a check?

Can I redeposit a check stamped "Payment Not Authorized" or "Unauthorized"?
Not Authorized - Payment Unauthorized, Not Authorized, and UA and "Counterfeit" stamps are typically a result of the account holder disputing the item during the paymentpresentment process, or if a particular block is noted on theaccount such as "no 
drafts" or "no debits" and such an item is presented.
Usually with Unauthorized checks that are stamped Payment Not Authorized, the account number is also crossed out or punched out with a hole punch. If not, you still can't redeposit the item or it will be returned as Unauthorized, or UA again.
If you deposited an item returned for Unauthorized Payment, also know as an UA Check, you will be charged a fee by your bank. Returned check fees usually range between $5 and $39 depending on your bank, and the state where you opened your account.
Some checks that are not authorized will be stamped COUNTERFEIT.
