How does RoutingTool™ work? What is it?

RoutingTool™ is a virtual terminal that  allows you to log into any web browser using a username and password to verify routing numbers on any U.S. checking account that is part of the Federal Reserve banking network.  You can also remotely link using Weblink or our API, and integrate the system into any application or ecommerce system, or you put it on your own website. There is also the option to download the entire database.

Are all banks listed?

Every U.S. Bank and Credit Union is listed in RoutingTool™.  New and updated routing numbers and routing number information are added every day to the official eRoutingNumber™ database..

How are updates processed?

RoutingTool updates are processed daily. The updates are automatic and usually post by 5 a.m. eastern time..

How does funds verification work?

RoutingTool™ will list the phone number for the bank's ACH department, or a special funds verification number in many cases.  For most commercial banks that offer funds verification, there will be a touch tone system allowing you to verify funds or account status.

For smaller banks, you can manually verify  funds by requesting "merchant funds verification" when you call the number  listed in RoutingTool.  Banks will provide this information in accordance with their  own privacy policy and local laws.

For Real-Time Account Verification you can use BetterCheck, at bettercheck.com.

Are credit unions listed?

Yes.  RoutingTool includes all banks that use a 9-igit routing number, including Federal
credit unions, community credit unions, state banks, national associations, and savings banks. The U.S., PR, Virgin Islands and territories are also included. This system does not work for Canadian or Mexican banks.

Will the software work on a network?

Yes.  RoutingTool can be used on any computer in your office. Log in or link up
from an unlimited number of computers.

Can I look at the software in advance?

Yes, you can sign up for the FREE virtual terminal account and use the software and virtual terminal to verify routing numbers, get the bank phone number or look up a bank's website address. You can preview the functions in the professional account and look at the API, the WebLink, the batch file upload and the file download interface. If you like it, you can upgrade with ease.

What about technical support?

Some features in the RoutingTool Virtual  Terminal are designed for developers who
have basic programming knowledge.

While batch upload and XML integration, API setup and batch file uploads are quite simple, there is no telephone  support for this product, nor written  documentation provided beyond the code  in your virtual terminal, and the sample CSV upload file for use in batch processing.

Email support is provided at no charge as  a courtesy in most cases when addressed
via our support ticket system.

What is a Routing Transit Number?

Routing Number

The Routing Number is a 9-digit number located between the Transit Symbols at the bottom of a valid U.S. check. This ABA routing number is used to route the check, and link it to the corresponding bank where the account is located.

The ABA number, the ABA Routing Number, the Transit Number, the RTN and the Routing Transit Number are all ways to say, "Bank Routing Number".

RotingTool™ is the best source for Routing Number Data.

Routing Number Results are Updated Daily from the eRoutingNumber™ Database. This database includes exclusive data, not offered by other sources, like Fake Routing Numbers, and the Fraction Code or Fractional Routing Number found on the face of printed checks, as well as the phone number for check verification..

The eRoutingNumber™ database Includes All ABA Routing Numbers in the United States, as well as the bank website in many cases. The eRoutingNumber™ database also contains the bank phone number and best number to call for check verification.

The eRoutingNumber™ database uses many different sources and has evolved since 1998, and now utilizes user reporting to keep the data in check.

Any user can report a routing number missing, invalid, or provide details not included. We verify every submission and make notes or updates accordingly.
